I decided to try to do a non spoof ad in the regulation 30 second slot. Quite difficult to think of an idea and communicate it in so short a time.

It annoys me there are no 'save it' ads on the tv, so that is what I did, clearly the irony is that I did it sat in front of 4 monitors...

Mela

3:00 | 28/08/06

A mela is an Asian festival with dance and food and we have one annually in our local park.

As you can see in the film it is a real family affair and all the more so cos no one gets drunk, or even drinks anything really.

They had the worst PA ever.

Woolacombe, Seaside Fun.

5:30 | 16/07/06

Beccy and I went for a short holiday in the summer to Woolacombe.  It was nice in a laid back way, very quiet as it was just before the schools summer break, just a few surfers and pensioners.

It was really hot and the hotel was like something from 70s Spain.  Recommended if you fancy the English seaside.

St. Paul's Carnival 2005

22:30 | 02/07/05

Just a film of my day at carnival.  My friend Clayton is involved with carnival and is a good interviewer too so the film is a vox pop really.

This film is definitely too long and I don't think it is varied enough to be interesting to the end.

World on our

doorstep festival

Easton

10:55 | 18/06/05

A small street festival held for the first time just down the road from me.  The street was Stapleton road, featured on channel 5 as one of the most dangerous streets in Britain, yeah whatever!

Snuff Mills

04:21 | 05/04/04

There was a bit of a fuss when the council did some pruning in this local pretty spot.  Some users of Bristol Indy Media got all in a fluster about it.

This was going to be a vox pop but it turned into a nature type film instead.

Brett Haircut-

Election Special

07:39 | 05/05/05

Brett covers the count at the council house in Bristol and completely fails to get any coffee, gets followed about by the police and gets thoroughly oppressed and outraged.

Have a go film making at its best and worst.  Totally crap, funny and fun to make

'Obby 'Oss

01:30 | 02/05/05

Cripes, those crazy country folk.

A person dressed as a sort of round horse chases a virgin though the streets.  A 4000 year old tradition apparently.

Filmed by my mate mark on a stills camera with sound from a Dictaphone, true low budget film making.

The good the bad and the ugly.

Election Special

06:51 | 31/04/05

We lance the boil of party politics, release the pus of opinion and drown in the tsunami of views, not to mention some of the opinionated drivel and uninformed bigotry that issues forth from the mouths of our fellow citizens .  Buy hey, thanks to those who took part.

Fox Hunt.

16:26 | 18/02/05

This was filmed at a meeting of the Beaufort hunt on the day after the hunting ban came into force.

A jolly jingoistic day for sure, hence my rather tongue in cheek edit.

Party after release from prison

02:32 | 10/12/04

This family fled Colombia in fear for their lives and made a home here for 4 years.  Then the immigration service split them up and imprisoned them, they were released on appeal, hence the party.

I was asked to film it to support their campaign to be allowed to stay in the uk.

Vigil for asylum hope family.

03:09 | 10/11/04

This vigil was held whilst the family were split up and the parents imprisoned.

They received good support locally, in the press and on the local TV.

Blackwood,

Stump Trek.

05:00 | 10/04/04

A retrospective irreverent romp in the aftermath of a failed road protest.

Our aim here was to get there on eviction day, we were a week late and the trees were gone and road building was under way.

Drugs vox pop

15:00 | 15/09/04

I thought a vp on drugs might be interesting.  Rhianna got some great interviews and then I did a funny edit with a sting at the end.  Ethically provocative maybe nut effective I think.

Amazing what people admitted too.

No Orange

04:34 | --/04/04

I filmed a small protest against a new mobile phone mast.

This campaign group was well run supported and succeeded in getting the planning permission rejected on appeal.  Clearly it was more about house price paranoia than anything else.  Daft really.  Sort of chicken and egg thing really.

Bristol stop the war march.

04:42 | --/06/04

A small local march in 2004, as of 2006 the war continues - depressing.

The march was attended by 100 - 150 people and nearly as many police.  It was all good natured except for the odd actions of one PC

Red Florence,

Hannah Bayman

16:26 | --/02/04

It is November 2002 and Britain and the US are preparing for the invasion of Iraq.  But in Florence, Italy, a million people are descending to protest against war.

The film captures the colour and excitement of the event, with drummers, dancers, clowns and giant puppets filling the streets

CIRCA in Leeds

13:00 | --/04/04

The Clandestine Rebel Clown Army in action closing down an army recruitment centre for a short time.

A clever and fun demonstration tactic - make 'em laugh...

Koyaanisqatsi -

Bristol Redux.

15:00 | 12/10/04

I love Koyaanisqatsi - an amazing hypnotic film, to some it is boring hippy nonsense, my partner calls it 'whenwillitendie'.

I was inspired to do something similar on stuff I filmed locally.  Farcical?  Who cares, I like it, so might you...

Bow saw Badits

04:06 | 27/05/04

Every now and again a few billboards get chopped down around here so I thought I would make a film about it.

Had great fun editing this and I like the result.

Victims

15:00 | --/02/04

Comment on the war in Iraq.  Contains gory pictures.

Iraq war -

Vox Pop

15:00 | --/11/03

One of my first films, shot in November 2003 before the war had started, now in late 2006 it continues, madness.

Even back then most people were very concerned.

BACC Demo - London

02:20 | --/03/04

BACC - Bristol against casualisation campaign.  A small group of activists went to leaflet outside parliament during a big do for employamnt agency bosses, thay asked me to film it for them.

We also saw the Iraqi football team arrive in their strip, click bottom player icon to view that.

Challenge

01:30 | --/03/04

Clifton is posh - no hoardings, Easton is not - lots of hoardings.  Why is that I wonder....?

Le Penn protest

Birmingham

03:52 | --/04/04

Mr Le Penn Visited and wasn't really made that welcome, shame.

Birmingham mobilised and the council joined in by supporting this action and telling him not to visit the city.

Vigil for

the

Fairford five.

01:30 | --/04/04

Some activists vandalised a bomber to stop it bombing people to death and they get knobbled.  As of 10/06 this case continues.  Mad.

Alistair Campbell

Demo

01:40 | --/05/04

The man was on a speaking tour and some people in Bristol were moved to protest.  This man was on of the 'new labour' architects and as such widely loathed.

Love the hand on camera shot, well I was asking for it really !

Demo against Iraq war and disney...?

03:52 | --/03/04

Odd this.  A small antiwar demo, handing out leaflets and a stop outside the army shop, then a stroll in the shopping centre... fine... then a nasty picket outside the Disney shop intimidating staff?  Err right, then (off camera) they went and mobbed MacDonald's... Hmmm, well er, no I give up !  Got some good hate mail after this film
